A Stash Bash Collaborative Baby Quilt

At last year’s retreat, several of us were missing our lovely friend Sharon.  Sharon wasn’t able to come to The Stash Bash because she was expecting her first baby!  We kept thinking of her and her newborn baby Ruby.  In an effort to have her there with us in spirit, we decided to make blocks for a Ruby baby quilt!

Amy had brought some scraps of Bonnie & Camille’s fabric line called Ruby and gave out pieces to people along with some white solid fabric.

Here is the quit top:

Here is the top with the names of the people who made each block:

(Is anyone missing?!)

Then Chris brought the blocks home, sewed them together with sashing, and quilted it.  We sent it off to Sharon and have been thrilled to see little Ruby on Instagram playing on it!

It’s amazing to experience the love that a sewing retreat can foster.  To decide to make a love quilt, coordinate the details, and knock out the blocks while sewing and laughing together is truly a joy.  We hope that you can join us at The Stash Bash this year to find out what exciting sewing happens on the spot in 2014!

Announcing 2014 Stash Bash Registration dates!

Registration for The Stash Bash in April will begin in just a few weeks.  Attendees from this year will be allowed to pre-register on November 4th and regular registration will open on Friday, November 8th at noon Eastern time.

The Stash Bash is a retreat with the sole purpose of sewing and laughing, preferably in our pjs.  Search on Instagram for the hashtag #thestashbash to see pics of this year’s inaugural event.  Next year’s event promises to be even better.  We will have one or two optional, informal classes but will spend most of our time dancing sewing, cussing quilting, and stashing bonding.  There will be an on-site fabric shop, a design wall or two, ironing and cutting stations and plenty of giveaways.  We also do optional swaps and fat quarter games.

Registration is limited so please be aware of your options before registration opens.  Read through the following information and then see the registration options and prices below.  I would hate for someone to miss their chance to snag a spot because they were confused about ticket options!

The Stash Bash will be returning to the Calvin Center and there are two types of accommodations.   One choice is a shared bunkhouse with basic camp bunk beds and shared bathroom.  Another choice is a very basic hotel room that has a queen bed, single bed, and private bathroom.  This hotel room option is available in single, double or triple accommodation in very limited quantities.  *Important note: if you are choosing double or triple accommodation you must already have roommates selected!*  Last year I didn’t do that and there were empty spots which left the room only half-paid.  One exception to this is if you are coming Thursday and your roommates aren’t, I can put you with others in the same situation for that night.

Another choice you will need to make is what day you arrive.  Standard registration includes all meals and accommodation from Friday lunch through Sunday breakfast.  Choosing the Thursday add-on ticket will add Thursday dinner, Thursday night accommodation, and Friday breakfast.  If you plan on coming Thursday, you must select both a standard registration ticket AND a Thursday add-on ticket.  The two tickets must be for the same accommodation type.

So, to recap, you need to make three choices:

1) What day will you arrive?  (If Thursday, you will need to buy a Standard Registration ticket AND a Thursday Add-On ticket.)

2) Bunk bed or hotel room?

3) If hotel room: single, double or triple? (If sharing, you must already have roommates in mind who are registering for the same type of tickets.)

Once you have purchased your Stash Bash ticket, ALL meals and accommodations are paid for.  You only need to figure out transportation to and from the event and pack your projects!

Don’t hesitate to email me at chris (at) freckemama (dot) com with ANY questions and be sure to tell your friends to join us at The Stash Bash!

Hope you can join us!

Thank you!

Well, The Stash Bash was amazing!  It was truly a dream come true for me.  Thank you first and foremost to those of you who took a chance and registered for a fledgling first-time event.  Not knowing how many people would be there or what the facility would be like, you still believed that getting a group of quilters together in one room for a weekend would be worth it.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

We also could not have had such a successful event without the generosity of our super supportive sponsors.  They provided supplies, giveaways and discounts to help make our retreat even more exciting and productive.

Thank you to Oliso for providing their innovative Smart Irons.  Several of our attendees fell in love with them and Suzy even nicknamed one of them her Lover.  I hope he cheats on her with me.

Thanks to Stash Fabrics and owner Beth for providing a scrumptious selection of fabric to purchase on-site.  Her online shop has lots of gorgeous lines to choose from.  She brought piles of cut FQs and wasn’t even in the door before we attacked her stash!  I think her huge inventory was practically all grabbed before she even had a chance to put down her car keys.

Thank you to Pink Castle Fabrics for putting together some nice giveaway fabric stacks including a Stash Stack pack.  We were able to take tons of giveaway breaks throughout each day which really added to the excitement and fun.  Pink Castle included several of the text prints they carry which are so popular right now.

A big thanks to Fat Quarter Shop for a super-fast response to my call.  They immediately jumped on board supporting The Stash Bash by sending some goodies for the goodie bags.  Within an hour of our phone call Debbie had something put together and sent out to me!

Special thanks go to Art Gallery Fabrics for sending us a beautiful gift bag full of fabric rolls for our attendees.  If you have sewn with them before, you know that Art Gallery Fabrics have a velvety soft hand.  When you feel them you just want to jump into a bed covered in Art Gallery Fabric.

Thank you also to my friend and LQS (local quilt shop) Andi Barney of Our Epoch.  Andi supplies all of my long arming thread in addition to my piecing Aurifil, Kona solids and great new precuts.   She provided FQs for all of the attendee goodie bags from the new Comma line!

A gigantic thanks to Amanda Hall at The Craft Junky for volunteering to teach people how to screen print.  Amanda spent lots of time helping people make their own screen-printed T-shirts, bags and fabric.  She also made a special screen design for us and made up zipper pouch kits with it for each attendee!  Thanks again Amanda for being awesome.

Thanks to several of our attendees for contributing to the giveaways as well.  Jacey made a lovely tote bag and brought a fat stack of scraps.  Tammy brought a great big Mama Said Sew Moda Jelly Roll from her Etsy Shop.

I am sure I’m forgetting someone but thank you to everyone who helped make this event a big success.  Stay tuned for information about next year’s Stash Bash!
